The Hillside House

A house that belongs to the hillside, not merely placed upon it.

About the Project

Carved into a south-facing slope above the Dart valley, The Hillside House was designed around a single ambition: that the building should feel as though it grew from the ground rather than was placed upon it. Load-bearing stone walls sourced from the site itself anchor the structure to the land. A copper roof, left to patinate over decades, will eventually read as another layer of the hillside's geology.
